Live Performance

Brian Holliday (he/him)

has been dancing and DJing for over a dozen years from downtown warehouses to cabins in the woods. Full of sonorous sub-bass and ethereal melodies, his musical style has been described as a journey from “Sea to Space.” He endlessly seeks to better understand how the language of music translates into the language of dance. His passion for this knowledge has led him to create his own music under the alias t3chnobear.

YOUR DJs FOR THE WEEKEND

A’lan Abruzzo (he/him)

loves dancing. A'lan loves music. He considers DJing for fusion a privilege, joy and self-expression. His fusion DJ acumen originated from his early training at swing/blues venues and grew as he became the first music coordinator at Shades in San Francisco. He broke onto the national fusion scene at the Portland Fusion Exchange and since then he's played at SDFX, LVFX, SFFX, DFX, SFFX, MFX, Recess, Seattle Fusion Festival, Albuquerque Fusion Experiment, City in Motion, Emerald City Blues, Mile High Blues, and BAmF, and Hi-Fi. He's looking forward to sharing his love sounds with you and move you into fusion bliss..

Emory Roehrkasse (she/they)

Emory first embarked on their partner dance journey in 2012, and since then they have taught, emceed, competed, organized, DJed, and performed as a lead and follow in Lindy Hop, Blues, Ballroom, Argentine Tango, West Coast Swing, and Fusion dance, all locally and many nationally.  They co-founded their university swing dance club in 2014, co-founded Fort Collins Swing Dance in 2018, and are now an influential member of the state-wide Colorado dance scene, working in multiple capacities with 15 different Colorado partner dance organizations since their arrival in 2016. They are professionally certified in 13 Ballroom dances through Fred Astaire Dance Studios, and are studying numerous other styles in addition to their ten years of Lindy Hop, Blues, and Fusion. Everyone deserves unbridled self-expression in the present moment, and Emory does all of this so all folk they encounter can look and feel great while clowning around, solo or partnered. Save Emory a dance, you’ll be glad you did!

Emily Webb (she/her)

In 1996 Emily Webb began her love affair with partner dance.  Through the years Emily has studied Tango, Swing, Salsa, Blues, and Fusion dance with some of the top instructors in the world.  Today Tango and Fusion remain Emily's greatest dance loves.

Thousands of students across the US and Canada have benefited from Emily's dynamic and interactive teaching style.  Through her years of teaching experience Emily has learned to make even the most complex movements simple and build them from the ground up.  This means you will not only look good while you dance, but feel great to your partners too!

Jamie-Lynn Figure (she/her)

first experienced partner dance in 1994 in the form of ice dancing. While progressing through competitive circles, she cross-trained with ballet, jazz, modern, and cardio dance classes. In 2005 she put on her first pair of ballroom shoes; in 2006 she fell in love with swing and blues. Addicted to new dancing experiences, she added Argentine tango to her repertoire in 2007. Basically, she loves to dance any way she can. Students of her weekly blues, swing, and connection lessons feel that their creativity, expressivity, and knowledge of fundamental concepts are challenged and expanded during each of her lessons. She's happy to have been a part of The Las Vegas Fusion Exchange and The Denver Fusion Exchange.

Jeannie Lin (she/her)

is a masterful shapeshifter dancer who is able to effortlessly adapt, blend, articulate and draw from a myriad of different dance forms and experiences.  Her early training comprised of gymnastics, ballet, and modern dance, while her later years included formal study in over 30 styles of partner dance at the Ballroom Dance Teacher's Academy where she graduated with high honors.  Her evenings were spent teaching professionally at a ballroom dance studio, while her late-night adventures included clubs and bars all over the city dancing salsa, bachata, west coast swing, blues, argentine tango, and more.

Now she happily resides in the worlds of fusion and argentine tango, where she weaves in her other dance styles together seamlessly, integrating concepts and creating hybrid movements with grace and fluidity. Recognized for her nuanced and effective teaching style, she's been invited to teach internationally at fusion festivals and workshops, including in Spain, Germany, Sweden, the Netherlands, United Kingdom, Poland, Hungary, and Canada.

Tango Roadmap for Fusion Dancers
Emily, Jamie-Lynn, & Jeannie

Come learn the foundations of tango technique and structure to start traveling on the dance floor with tango flare. We'll decode parallel system, cross system, moving inside and outside partner, and how to leverage these systems and positions to enhance the navigation and flow of your Fusion dancing.

Snakes & Circles
Emily, Jamie-Lynn, & Jeannie

This class will cover curves and circular pathways: creating intuitive flow while maintaining balance and power through the spiraling dynamics of the body. Followers will learn how to move in smooth, snake-like pivots around their partner, while leads will learn to guide the follower’s momentum in a way that unlocks endless creative potential. These rotational dynamics are the backbone of tango figures, and easily adaptable to open doors to fusion possibilities!

Playing footsie
Emily, Jamie-Lynn, & Jeannie

Touching toes is the first step to creating the shared leg space interactions that make tango so mesmerizing. Get ready for snuggly sole connection! Here, we'll discuss building an awareness of your partner's foot placement, making contact intentionally, and safely sweeping your partner off their feet (one at a time).

Micro Feet & Musical Magic
Emily, Jamie-Lynn, & Jeannie

In this class we will start with perceiving your partners from head to toe until they become an extension of your own body. With this connection, we can begin to explore the subtleties of shifting weight with your partner which will open a whole new world of magical micro footwork! Through tango-influenced steps like box step varations, staggered steps, hits and pauses, we will be able to break out of standard rhythms and be able to express the true potential of what the song is offering through your feet with your partner. Magically, even the simplest of moves will feel special and your musicality will leave your partners craving more!

Head to Toe Dancer Body
With Emily

Moving with grace and ease; Balance without effort; Creating soft yet sensitive connection with your partner --- It all starts with our feet and goes up from there. In this class we are going to look at body alignment and embrace literally from toe to head. You will build your base, realign your posture, and create an embrace to write home about. It’s time to let go of tension and open up more joy and freedom in your dancing body!

The Power of Centeredness
Jamie-Lynn, & Jeannie

Axis, axis, axis, it's difficult to take a tango class without hearing the term. We each have one, and we share one. In this class, we'll explore the extreme of what maintaining an independent axis can morph into and how your partner can interact with it. Get ready for a new twist on turns!

The Leg Connection:
Moving as a 4-legged animal

Jamie-Lynn + Emily

Tango is all about leg creativity and flow, but good looking legs aren't the real gold. You'll find the end of the rainbow through the lead / follow connection and body mechanics that make Tango leg movements look so effortless. In this workshop, we will refine your leg movement and create a direct relationship between the leader's and follower’s legs so that your partnership is as fluid as a 4-legged animal. Get ready to swing and wrap your legs into Tango moves that can work magic on the Fusion floor.

Counter Balance & Rotational Power
Emily & Jeannie

Dance moves that require counterbalance are so much fun... unless someone gets hurt. Whether you lead or follow there is an art to sharing weight and counterbalancing your partner. This class will focus on the skills of Tango counter balance technique that will make all your counterbalance moves safe and stable (which equals FUN). If you have never done counterbalanced moves before, this will be a great foundation that will set you up for a lifetime of solid counterbalance bliss. If you already play with counterbalance get ready to up your level with hang time and rotational power!

Tango-y Fusion Embellishments (for leads and follows)
With Jeannie

In this class, we’ll be borrowing from the large library of beautiful and intricate tango footwork and learning how to style them into our fusion dancing. We’ll warm up with decorative elements from tango such as beats, tucks, rulos, and other fun adornments that will easily liven up your dancing (and musicality!). Additionally, we’ll learn to create a dynamic wrapping effect in our turns by opening the lines of the legs and spine in order to create those elegant shapes and spirals. With style and finesse, let's light up your fusion dancing with some tango fire!
