His interest in body movement brought him into contact with a variety of styles led him to dance and mainly to Argentine tango. A dance he has been teaching and performing for over a decade and a half. His dancing style is dynamic, experimental, and innovative. It abounds with creativity and continually evolves to explore new forms of expression, while simultaneously striving to be mindful and respectful of tradition A highly trained musician, tap and jazz dancer Ayona discovered tango few years ago allowing her to apply her modern jazz background, long lines, flexibility and natural grace. These elements alone made her stand out, and under Moti’s tutelage she quickly excelled. Recognizing her potential for growth after a few short months, Moti took her under his wing as his protégé and soon thereafter his dance partner. Currently, they teach in Santa Monica where they have several projects in the works.</image:caption>

In 2000 Sifu Mario met Master Zhao Weidong, a 13th generation Zhaobao Tai Chi Master. Sifu Mario feels that Master Zhao was the most influential teacher in his martial arts training, and helped him to uncover the many internal secrets hidden in tai chi. In 2010 Sifu Mario became certified as a massage therapist, and opened 5 Elements with Instructor Keith, with the main focus of combining the Northern Shaolin and Wing Chun Kung Fu. 5 Elements also provides many other healing bodywork practices such as yoga, tai chi, chi gong, and massage therapy. <image:caption>Brick Robbins After studying martial arts as a youth, Brick discovered dancing in a Country Bar. He then explored the partner dances through West Coast Swing, Ballroom, Argentine Tango, and Contact Improv and in quest of better technique studied Ballet, Jazz and Tap. After several years of dancing, he finally settled on two connection based improvisational partner dances, West Coast Swing and Argentine Tango. As a competitive WCS dancer, he competed in the NASDE Showcase (choreography) division, and rose to Advanced in the WSDC Jack and Jill (improv) competitions. While on and extended stay in Buenos Aires studying tango, a local Argentine dancer seeking a partner met Brick, and they competed in the Tango World Championships. He has taught locally in San Diego for many years and currently organizes several WCS and Tango social dances in the area. Always eager to get new dancers hooked on his two favorite addictions, he focuses on giving fun and entertaining classes with emphasis musicality and connection, showing how technique and patterns are merely tools used to create emotion with a partner, to express the music. Brick's teaching technique interchanges teaching methods learned from tango in Buenos Aires and West Coast Swing in SoCal creating a more rich and robust approach to teaching both dances.</image:caption>

Dexter has won first place in numerous Blues dancing competitions around the country and has won the title of Ballroomin' Blues champion at bluesSHOUT 3 times (2007, 2008, and 2010). At bluesSHOUT 2010 in Austin, Dexter won all four partnered competitions: Open Jack & Jill, Strictly Jook Joint, Strictly Ballroomin', and Champions Division. <image:caption>first experienced partner dance in 1994 in the form of ice dancing. While progressing through competitive circles, she cross-trained with ballet, jazz, modern, and cardio dance classes. In 2005 she put on her first pair of ballroom shoes; in 2006 she fell in love with swing and blues. Addicted to new dancing experiences, she added Argentine tango to her repertoire in 2007. Basically, she loves to dance any way she can. Students of her weekly blues, swing, and connection lessons feel that their creativity, expressivity, and knowledge of fundamental concepts are challenged and expanded during each of her lessons. She's happy to have been a part of The Las Vegas Fusion Exchange and The Denver Fusion Exchange.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Workshop Schedule - Jamica Zion (they/she)</image:title>
<image:caption>Based in Atlanta, Georgia, Jamica Zion takes pride in being a dynamic follow and growing lead. Jamica aims for range, not just in connection and style, but across genres too! They hold multiple titles in Blues and Lindy Hop contests from top US events including Lindy Focus, Camp Jitterbug, Beantown, and Camp Hollywood. When Jamica is not social dancing, teaching, or working on choreography, she is likely spending time with her dog, reading, playing video games, napping, or spending time with loved ones. Jamica's approach towards sharing dance with others includes a critical understanding and appreciation of its history and culture, while simultaneously ushering students to build their own styles and meaningful connections to it. Jamica draws on their professional training from working with organizations like the Anti-Defamation League, and educational background which includes nearly three degrees in Sociology. This unique blend of experiences, pedagogy, and knowledge allows Jamica to deliver inclusive and culturally responsible classes that are creative, fun, and original!</image:caption>

      <image:title>Workshop Schedule - Ruby Red (she/her)</image:title>
<image:caption>A lifelong student of movement, I studied ballet at the San Francisco Ballet, modern dance at Mills College, music production at Mills’ Center for Contemporary Music and eventually trained in San Francisco to be a Master Bodyworker in a variety of modalities. After exploring Trapeze and Silks at San Francisco’s Circus Center, performing Burlesque in underground clubs and training in the instructor program at the American Chinese Martial Arts Federation I discovered the world of social dance at the San Francisco Community College in the year 2000. After exploring the Ballroom Dances, Argentine Tango, West Coast Swing and Salsa, I had the fortune of attending a Frankie Manning workshop in 2001 where he told the story of the battle of the bands between Chick Webb and Benny Goodman and his performance of the first air-steps. It was then that I realized that Swing Dance would last me for the rest of my life. After all, Frankie was 89 at the time and still going strong! Through Swing dancing I was invited to an an underground blues dance party and by 2005 I was teaching and DJing at the first iterations of Friday Night Blues in San Francisco. Since then I’ve traveled the US and to the UK to teach, DJ and share my love of Blues and Swing with other dancers. I continue to study other movement styles, yoga, and strength training to bolster my movement awareness. Now based in Chicago, I’ve worked to foster the blues community here through the creation of Bluetopia (Chicago’s monthly blues dance) as well as the Chicago Underground Blues Experience, Chicago’s annual celebration of Blues fest. I continue to travel to other cities to connect, collaborate and bring inspiration back to my community.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Workshop Schedule - Jenny Sowden (she/her)</image:title>
<image:caption>“You are truth in motion when you dance, Ms S.” - Jason Jenny Sowden is an award winning, full-time, international dance instructor based in New York City where she is the founder and director of Brooklyn Swings. Jenny has been training in dance for over twenty-five years and teaching for over twenty, with a BA in Dance and Theater from San Diego State University. She has studied 34 different styles of movement including Ballet, Tap, Hip Hop, West African, Capoeira, Aikido, Tango, Salsa, Lindy hop, Balboa, and Blues. Her background influences her teaching and general style through musicality, variety, expression and an understanding of body mechanics. Jenny believes the dance floor is a ‘World of Yes,’ where by constantly accepting and being inspired by what happens, creates an amazing place to be. We then take classes in a ‘World of Intention’ to expand our ‘World of Yes.’ Find out more at JennySowden.com.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Workshop Schedule - Heidi Fite (she/her)</image:title>
<image:caption>began dancing, teaching, and djing Blues dances in St. Louis in 1999. She has been dancing, teaching, performing, and djing ever since. An early promoter of Blues dancing, she founded the first national Blues dance workshop (Cheap Thrills), which has since transformed into the nation's largest Blues dance workshop and competition weekend (bluesSHOUT!). Now busy with family, Heidi no longer runs bluesSHOUT!, but she continues to travel the world teaching Blues dance as a living tradition, with a rich history and an exciting future. From local classes to international workshops to historical research and documentation of the dance, she is dedicated to the preservation and promotion of Blues dancing. This weekend, you can count on her set to put some serious 'boom boom boom' and 'aw haw haw haw' in your dancing.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Brian discovered dancing in 2009 and began djing on his very first dancivesary. Brian discoverd that having the right music playing at the right time is not just a task for the dance venue. Whatever the occasion, be it on beach, on a a road trip, or coding at a desk having the best music playing for the mood is a daily pursuit. Some of Brian's new favorite genre's include, Post-Dubstep, Future Bass, and Alt R&B. It is rumored that the only reason Brian's face doesn't melt off from listening to such juicy tunes is because it is held up by his beard.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Dancing Schedule - Stasha Migliaccio</image:title>
<image:caption>Stasha Migliaccio started dancing with ballroom back at the tender age of 12, and had hopped around to salsa, blues, before settling in at her dance home of fusion. After starting San Luis Obispo's first weekly fusion event, Stasha got the DJing bug! Focusing on building moods and maintaining energy to keep you dancing all night long, Stasha tends towards earthy vocalists, multi-layered beats, and that bass. Stasha owes fealty to her kitty liege, Princess Fluffybutt. You may ask to see pictures of her Royal Fluffiness.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Dancing Schedule - Kathleen Evans</image:title>
<image:caption>discovered fusion dancing in 2012, coming into the dance with a background in blues, salsa, contra, and bhangra. Her first foundational fusion experience was at the Las Vegas Fusion Exchange, and she vowed to become a dj in part to recreate the excitement of that incredible weekend. For the past few years she's honed her craft spinning at blues and fusion events in New York City, and has spun at Montreal Blue Infusion and DJX in Philadelphia. As a dj, Kathleen likes to create a mood that dancers can play with – whether playful or intense, sexy or soulful. She loves discovering new artists, and she can never resist a good cover.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Sifu Mario Mayorga, Co-owner of 5 Elements Martial Arts & Wellness Center, has trained in various forms of martial arts, including: Taekwondo, Aikido, Kung Fu, Tai Chi, and Chi Gong, since 1993. He earned his black belt in Kung Fu in 1999 and specializes in teaching Northern Shaolin Kung Fu, Zhaobao and Yang-style Tai Chi Chuan. Since then, he’s been teaching kung fu at martial arts studios, public schools, and in private lessons all over San Diego. His passion for teaching is driven by showing his students to find a deep and expressive connection within themselves. In 2012 Sifu Mario finished his Holistic Health Practitioner’s training at the Internal Professional School of Bodywork (IPSB), with over 1200 hours. In 2014 he completed a special teacher-training course at IPSB, and has been continuing his mentorship with many great healers. Sifu Mario feels that continued self develop leads to becoming a better practitioner of your craft. He is currently spending much of his time refining his martial arts skills and exploring different martial art styles such as Brazilian Jui Jitsu, and training with ICE Urban Combat Martial Arts. In addition to his martial arts training, he has spent extra time exploring activities such as yoga, gymnastics, ballroom dancing, hiking, and bike riding.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Jamie-Lynn ZYCIE Jamie-Lynn first experienced partner dance in 1994 in the form of ice dancing.

Furthermore, she believes that dancing is a joyful physical expression and that reflects in her teaching. She teaches both locally and nation-wide, is a frequent competitor, and part of the all-star women's blues troupe, Mojo Aristocracy. She's frequently dressed to the nines, so be on the lookout for her and ask her for a dance!</image:caption>

After starting San Luis Obispo's first weekly fusion event, Stasha got the DJing bug! Focusing on building moods and maintaining energy to keep you dancing all night long, Stasha tends towards earthy vocalists, multi-layered beats, and that bass.

<image:caption>Nathaniel M Abrea is a nationally acclaimed blues dancer who loves to social dance, compete, and teach as much as he sleeps. He is known for having precise musicality, playfully rhythmic movements, and expressive body shaping as a lead, follow, and solo dancer. Nathaniel first explored dancing through a catchy choreography on YouTube in his bedroom, and continues to do so to this day. Since his first encounter with dance, he has lightly explored other various dance forms that have deeply influenced the way he likes to move: Studio Hip Hop (New Style Choreography), Dancehall, West Coast Swing, Lindy Hop, and more. Coming from a non-technical background, he is highly attuned to his intuition for body mechanics and musicality. His intuition-first approach allows him to craft intellectually accessible and relatable lessons that reward students with new techniques to challenge themselves on their own time. He also executes each lesson with as much patience as he has excitement, and hopes to empower his students to start navigating their own personal expression of Blues. Within the past several years, Nathaniel has worked with dedication, and competed and won at many national events such as: BluesSHOUT!, Austin Blues Party, Rain City Blues, Snowbound Blues, Rose City Blues, Northstar Blues, and more. He has won competitions as a Lead, Follow, and Solo, and is proudly recognized as the first to officially qualify in the All Star division as both a Follow and a Lead. Nathaniel continually strives for new ways to grow, and for more things to learn, in hopes that he can share his newfound knowledge and experiences with his students.</image:caption>

Beyond this, A'lan holds the distinctive honor of being the inaugural music coordinator at Shades SF, setting the tone and rhythm for countless dancers. His reputation in the DJ world was further cemented with his unforgettable "Heart Set" at the Denver Fusion Exchange. Today, A'lan not only continues to captivate audiences with his mixes but also extends his expertise through teaching and coaching, inspiring the next generation of DJs to find their unique sound and rhythm.</image:caption>

<image:caption>is a masterful shapeshifter dancer who is able to effortlessly adapt, blend, articulate and draw from a myriad of different dance forms and experiences. Her early training comprised of gymnastics, ballet, and modern dance, while her later years included formal study in over 30 styles of partner dance at the Ballroom Dance Teacher's Academy where she graduated with high honors. Her evenings were spent teaching professionally at a ballroom dance studio, while her late-night adventures included clubs and bars all over the city dancing salsa, bachata, west coast swing, blues, argentine tango, and more. Now she happily resides in the worlds of fusion and argentine tango, where she weaves in her other dance styles together seamlessly, integrating concepts and creating hybrid movements with grace and fluidity. Recognized for her nuanced and effective teaching style, she's been invited to teach internationally at fusion festivals and workshops, including in Spain, Germany, Sweden, the Netherlands, United Kingdom, Poland, Hungary, and Canada.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Learning - Heidi Fite (she/her)</image:title>
<image:caption>Heidi began dancing and teaching Blues dancing in St. Louis in 1999 and has been dancing, teaching and performing ever since. An early promoter of Blues dancing, she founded the first national Blues dance workshop (Cheap Thrills), which later transformed into the nation's largest Blues dance competition weekend (bluesSHOUT!). Heidi continues to travel the world teaching Blues dance as a living tradition, with a rich history and an exciting future. From local classes to international workshops and historical research and documentation of the dance, she is dedicated to the preservation and promotion of Blues dancing. Her classes are inspiring and challenging, but Heidi's focus on the underlying principles and fundamentals of the dance allows her to break down the most difficult concepts and moves, making them easy to understand and incorporate. Heidi is able to communicate and instill in her students a love of dance and a dedication to the learning process. Most importantly, her classes will put some serious 'boom boom boom' and 'aw haw haw haw' in your dancing.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Learning - Ben O’Neal (he/him)</image:title>
<image:caption>Ben O’Neal has been partner dancing for 15 years. While starting in ballroom, he quickly found social dances like salsa and west coast swing to devote the majority of his time. He became obsessed with the learning and teaching process of wcs and really let it engulf his dance life. Through this process he found that he could implement other dances into his wcs, unknowingly to him, starting his fusion journey. It wasn't until he found fusion properly that he stopped calling himself a wcs dancer and realized all he’s ever wanted to do was dance fusion. After years of learning the rights and wrongs of dance, fusion gave him an open ended canvas to explore and create. He still loves to pull from his past dance experiences but now prefers exploring the boundless creativity fusion offers.</image:caption>

<image:caption>a Los Angeles-based West Coast Swing, Lindy Hop, blues, and fusion dance teacher, DJ, choreographer, competitor, and enthusiastic student. I’ve been partner dancing since 2004, and my journey has taken me across the country teaching, learning, and building community through dance. Fusion holds a special place in my heart, it invites us to move beyond genre and instead connect through intention, creativity, and presence. As a teacher, I focus on helping students develop a deep understanding of connection and movement, and I’m passionate about guiding people toward finding their own voice on the dance floor. My goal is always to help dancers show up authentically, joyfully, and respectfully; with themselves, their partners, and their communities. I care deeply about community building because I believe partner dancing is more than artistic expression, it’s a powerful tool for connection and healing. That’s why I encourage organizers and dancers alike to move with purpose, awareness, and care for the spaces we’re co-creating. I’m constantly reconnecting with my own love of dance and expanding my movement vocabulary through styles like Kizomba, Bachata, and hip-hop. I’m honored to be part of City in Motion, an event that reflects the diversity, depth, and joy of fusion. Let’s move together.</image:caption>

They co-founded their university swing dance club in 2014, co-founded Fort Collins Swing Dance in 2018, and are now an influential member of the state-wide Colorado dance scene, working in multiple capacities with 15 different Colorado partner dance organizations since their arrival in 2016. <image:caption>began his dance journey with Contra and gleefully spun in circles for a few years before falling in love with both Blues and Fusion. Over the last few years, he’s continued to expand his dance horizons with WCS and Kizomba. As a DJ he brings music outside the norm of what's often played in fusion (ie - more afro rhythms, funk, etc.), and weaves that in with more familiar sounds to get the party going. He’s also been playing with live-mixing between songs for a little bit of added spice and interaction with the energy on the floor throughout his sets!</image:caption>

      <image:title>DanceGathering (Copy) - Ben O’Neal (he/him)</image:title>
<image:caption>Ben O’Neal has been partner dancing for 15 years. While starting in ballroom, he quickly found social dances like salsa and west coast swing to devote the majority of his time. He became obsessed with the learning and teaching process of wcs and really let it engulf his dance life. Through this process he found that he could implement other dances into his wcs, unknowingly to him, starting his fusion journey. It wasn't until he found fusion properly that he stopped calling himself a wcs dancer and realized all he’s ever wanted to do was fuze. After years of learning the rights and wrongs of dance fusion gave him an open ended canvas to explore and create. He still loves to pull from his past dance experiences but now prefers exploring the boundless creativity fusion offers.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Matthew has been dancing blues and fusion for over a decade, previously coming from the land of Latin and Argentine Tango, and since taking brief trips into the various Swings. He immediately fell in love with the improvisational freedom blues gives, while providing a structure to connect with another human. An absolute fiend for isolations and syncopations. His philosophy of partner dance - that it is highly conversational with plenty of adjectives, adverbs, and other parts of speech - is something he brings to dancing, teaching, and DJing. He strives to bring evocative music to dancers and empower them to intentionally connect and have whimsical, funky, and awe-inspiring dance conversations.</image:caption>

      <image:title>DanceGathering (Copy) - Mija Valdez (she/her)</image:title>
<image:caption>Mija was born and raised in San Diego, California. She attributes her musical taste and inclination towards fusion dance in large part to her own mixed Japanese and Mexican heritage and influences. She was greatly influenced by modern dance, as a child, most particularly by the embodied expression of emotion it made possible. In 2011 she encountered fusion for the first time, and was utterly blown away. She wanted more fusion in San Diego, but had no idea how to find the music, so at the behest of a friend, she created the Fusion Playlist Hit or Miss, Fusion Talking Points, and the Fusion DJ Setlist groups on Facebook. The thought behind the formation of these groups was to foster discovery, dialogue, and community. Of all the dance styles Mija has experienced, she feels that fusion offers a unique opportunity to express and explore a wide range of emotions and dance styles in a partnered way. As a fusion DJ, she seeks to foster opportunities for vulnerability, connection, creativity, and playfulness with both, music choices, and flow. She has been exploring notions of how less can be more, and finding silence and stillness in the music and in the connection with one’s partner as a place from which to dance.</image:caption>

<image:caption>A'lan, a seasoned DJ with a deep passion for music and dance, began his journey under the expert tutelage of Steven Watkins when he specialized in blues. His DJ prowess was recognized early on as he graced the decks at the very first Fusion Exchange, marking a significant milestone in his career. Beyond this, A'lan holds the distinctive honor of being the inaugural music coordinator at Shades SF, setting the tone and rhythm for countless dancers. His reputation in the DJ world was further cemented with his unforgettable "Heart Set" at the Denver Fusion Exchange.
